Online configurator shows first pictures of updated car

These are the first pictures of the new BMW X5 M Sport Package.

The pictures were placed on the company's car configurator website for German vehicles. As a result no details have been confirmed, but changes from the standard car include a colour coded body kit, side skirts and 19-inch wheels.

New BMW X5 revealed

BMW has given the entire X5 range a mid-life facelift shortly before the model faces increased competition from the new VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, which will be revealed within three weeks.

The exterior changes are low-key; there’s a new front bumper with larger air ducts to cool the engine, altered headlamps and tail-lights, and a deeper rear bumper.

Inside, the X5 receives new trim, the latest iDrive and with a wider range of options, including park assistance systems.

By the same token, why would you consider the M Sport package? It looks tacky and the removal of the unpainted wheel-arches robs the body of its best feature.

The only sense this car makes, since it doesn't off road that well, is in its lower-powered, more comfortable versions.

Completely agree. The same is true of the new Discovery 4 - it looked so much better with the plastic wheel arches - purposeful rather than bling.

I don't have an issue with people buying large SUVs but sticking huge alloys and a sport package on one smacks of serious insecurities and a need for attention.

i disagree a standard x5 sitting next to a range rover sport looks like a has been! the kit certainly beefs it up a bit or maybe im still young enough to like cars like this lol

This article makes it sound like you couldn't get the M Sport package on the pre-facelift X5, which you could!
