Europe’s most environmentally friendly vehicle is a Volkswagen Passat powered by natural gas, according to the FIA-backed Eco Test.
The Passat scored 92 points out of a maximum 100, a score only matched by the new Toyota Prius, which relies on expensive hybrid technology.
The Eco Test takes into account not just CO2 emissions but also harmful pollutants such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides.
The Passat was powered by VW’s 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. Key to its success was the combination of a clean-burning petrol engine and low-pollution natural gas.

Re: VW Passat is Europe's greenest
A very exciting car. CNG is compressed natural gas, huge reserves and the engines have really good emmissions.
This gets really exciting when you look at the different fuel this car can run on. Biomethane is made to exactly the same spec as natural gas. Biomethane can be made at your local sewage works or your local landfill site or your local farm. The biogas has the carbon dioxide removed leaving the methane.
The carbon footprint of this waste sourced fuel is tiny, it has not harmed any animals, damaged any rainforrest or stolen any food from the third world.

Which of course means that the self-serving politicians and the 'climate change' industry thta has leapt on to the bandwagon can now use any excuse or pretext to feather their nests or get their pathetic fifteen minutes of fame at our expense.
