The quality and innovation from the Chinese car makers has never been higher than at the Shanghai motor show 2011. Particularly impressive are big coupe concepts from Icona and FAW, while the wacky is provided by Geely, Dongfeng and Changan.

Of course, there are the usual array of western clones at the show, including models inspired by the Kia Soul and VW Microbus. The Geely GS, a spitting image for a Rolls-Royce Phantom, is also back on display for another year.

I find it a bit sad about any car these days is the headline news is it will do 200 miles or 210 miles whatever. No one used to headline ICE cars as 'woo! it can go erm.. unlimited miles' as it is a given thanks to the almost instant extension of some readily available dinosaur juice.

I know you can charge an EV on the road of course, but the network is so far behind where it needs to be.

All I am saying is I look forward to the day standard ranges are bigger, super fast chargers are everywhere and the main factor about an EV is its car-ness and not that it will probably make it home.
