Baby estate will reach UK showrooms this summer

This is the Seat Ibiza ST.

The baby estate will join the three and five-door models in Seat’s Ibiza range when it launches in the UK this summer.

The Ibiza ST is 180mm longer than the hatchback model at 4230mm. Boot space is 430 litres, up from 292 litres in the hatch, and this can be further increased by folding down the split rear seats.

Seat says it has tried to optimise access to the rear hatch by making the opening as wide and as low as possible.

Much of the styling mirrors the hatchback’s, incorporating Seat’s ‘Arrow Design’ front-end package. Changes at the rear include split rear light clusters.

There will be three petrol and two diesel engines available at launch, including 1.2-litre TDI and 1.2-litre TSI units. Four of the motors feature direct-injection and turbocharging, and power outputs range from 84bhp to 104bhp. A six-speed DSG gearbox will be optional.

The Ibiza ST is expected to be priced from £12,500 to compete with the Peugeot 207SW and Renault Clio ST.

Re: Seat Ibiza ST revealed

If SAAB had gone to the great junk yard in the sky. I often struggle as to what I'd buy in the future. What I need from a car these days is something about the size of this SEAT Ibiza. I was given an Ibiza as a hire car to drive back in the mid-90's and I thought it was great; I think I would buy a SEAT. I really like the styling of the new Ibiza but this car just doesn't work.

That said; although I still think Skoda will lose some sales over this car, I also think some of you are right that some people just won't buy a Skoda. However is there really nothing else on the market with good loading capacity with fold flat seating and a funky design?

Then it dawned on me... Yes the C3 Picasso

Re: Seat Ibiza ST revealed

The current Ibiza is the only new car I have seen in the past couple of years that actually looks really disappointing in the metal having seen so many really good looking photo`s of it.

The front lights seem oversized, the rear lights look feeble and all those styling slashed really contrived.

I owned an Ibiza in the mid 90`s and from that day to this i can`t understand why SEAT exist.

In this particular case, the estate looks significantly better than the hatchback that spawned it!
