Audi has revealed a hybrid version of the A8 at today's Geneva motor show.
Power comes from a 197bhp 2.0-litre TFSI engine and a 44bhp electric motor powered by a lithium ion battery pack. Combined torque is 354lb ft and the car can get from 0-62mph in 7.5sec. Fuel economy is rated at 38mpg, which is 20 per cent improvement over the standard A8.
It can travel on electric power only for 1.2 miles at speeds of up to 40mph. CO2 emissions are rated at 144g/km.
Audi claims the hybrid A8 remains a "dynamic" car, despite the addition of the electric motor and lithium ion battery pack. Although officially billed as a design study, the car is expected to follow the regular A8 into production later this year.

Re: Detroit motor show: Audi A8
Waiting until next year before launching the 3.0 TDI won't help sales in the UK and most of Europe I imagine. Or does Autocar mean that when the article was written last year, it would take until this year for the 3.0 to be available?
Re: Detroit motor show: Audi A8
... Still looks like an A4. Sorry for maybe sounding a little too serious here, but, it is an insult to the other luxury cars in its class.
Re: Detroit motor show: Audi A8
This is not exactly new news... Apart from the first sentence, it appears to be a verbatim re-print of an A8 launch story from over a month ago. Surely there is something more interesting to write about at the Detroit Motor Show than just re-printing old news???
