Infiniti EX and FX models are now available to order with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, the first time a diesel engine has ever appeared in Infiniti’s 20-year history.
The 235bhp, 406lb ft direct-injection engine will also feature in the firm’s new M saloon, due to go on sale later this year.
The engine helps the EX30d get from 0-62mph in 7.9sec and the FX30d covers the same distance in 8.3sec.
Infiniti’s European vice president Jim Wright said a diesel engine was a must if Infiniti was to establish itself in Europe.
“We were aware from the outset that for Infiniti to offer a complete range a powerful diesel engine was a must, especially in the European premium SUV market where diesel represents the bulk of sector sales,” he said.
In addition, Infiniti has confirmed that the window switches in the Infiniti M will be used in the EX and FX from now on. The previous parts were shared with the Nissan Qashqai.

Re: Infiniti diesels go on sale
... and are simply not big enough to survive on their own.
Re: Infiniti diesels go on sale
I think you'll find that Renault scored higher than Nissan in the latest ADAC reliability surveys than Nissan (more important measure than customer related wear and tear issues) but, nevertheless the introduction of the diesel in the Infiniti can only help in improving overall European sales (where the lower fiscal hp makes more sense) .
Will still remain a niche choice behind the Germans but that's what Infiniti expect over the next few years. Had the chance to sit in one - at least it seems to have the quality and quirkiness to fill the void left by Saab during GM ownership....
Re: Infiniti diesels go on sale
DKW - Nissan have been paired with Nissan for 11 years now. It's hardly a recent development. They merged in 1999.
The BMW X5 3 litre diesel (probably it's main competitor, and the comparison you refer to) produces 245 BHP, not 300. So actually very similar to the Infiniti. If you want more, the X540D produces it, but has a starting price of £46K. The vast bulk of sales of the X5 are the the lower horsepower 30D.
