The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has been revealed at today’s New York motor show. The all-new model is the tenth generation of the model, which was introduced in 1958.
The styling is a huge leap forward over the current model, and is an effort to push the model upmarket.
The saloon, which is based on the Vauxhall Insignia’s Epsilon II platform, has a sweeping profile and high-spec models are fitted with HID headlights with daytime running lamps. The car carries the leaping impala emblem on the C-pillars which also feature a flourish similar to BMW’s hofmeister kink.
Interior design and materials have been improved. It features Chevrolet’s dual-cockpit interior. The instrument panel integrates a cluster with a standard-fit 4.2-inch colour screen. Chevrolet’s MyLink infortainment system allows easy connectivity with mobile devices.
Chevrolet says the Impala has a more rigid bodyshell, bringing improvements in NVH, ride and handling. It claims the Impala is the company’s quietest full-size saloon ever.
Three engines are offered: a 2.4-litre Ecotec engine producing 182bhp, a 195bhp 2.5 and a 3.6-litre V6 which will produce an estimated 303bhp. All engines are matched to a six-speed automatic.
Chevrolet will debut the Impala alongside a facelifted version of its Traverse crossover.
