The new Mazda 6 will cost from £19,595 when it goes on sale in the UK in January 2013. Revealed at the Paris motor show in both saloon and estate forms, the new 6 will be offered with a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2 litre diesels from Mazda’s new SkyActiv range.
The base Mazda 6 is a £19,595 saloon equipped with a 143bhp 2.0 litre petrol in SE trim and with a six-speed manual gearbox. This petrol engine is also available with 163bhp, and both outputs can be equipped to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Torque for this engine is rated at 155lb ft at 4000rpm.
The diesel is available with 148bhp or 173bhp and the same six-speed manual and automatic transmissions as the petrol. Torque for this engine is rated at 310lb ft at 2000rpm.
Mazda is targeting economy of 68.9mpg and CO2 emissions of just 108g/km with its most frugal diesel 6, figures that would make it the most efficient car in its class. Those figures are helped by Mazda’s clever new i-ELOOP stop-start and brake energy recuperation system.
The most expensive 6 in the range is a £28,045 173bhp diesel estate in Tourer Sport Nav Auto trim.

Fleet Hit?
As much as I hate to say it but with figures like this Mazda should be pushing their car to the fleet market quite heavily and giving the default BMW 3 series a run for it's money.
I know that targeting fleet sales can cause as many problems as it does sales but they have a good product and may as well make hay while the sun shines.
Is it me?
Or are saloons looking increasingly like good value when compared to the escalating price of hatchbacks?
