Special '50' editions of the McLaren 12C get cosmetic and specification enhancements; production run limited to 100 cars worldwide

McLaren will mark its 50th anniversary with special editions of the 12C and 12C Spider.

Only 100 examples of the '50' editions will be offered worldwide, with production being split equally with the 12C and 12C Spider.

The McLaren 50 12C and 12C Spider receive both technical and cosmetic upgrades, produced by the McLaren Special Operations division. Power output, however, remains unchanged.

Changes include a remodelled front bumper that increases downforce, more carbonfibre components and a front floor that's constructed from race-derived carbon Kevlar.

Both the 50 12C and 12C Spider also get the carbon ceramic brake upgrade as standard, which includes 394x66mm discs at the front and 380x34mm discs at the rear.

Bespoke McLaren 50 'Ultra Lightweight' wheels are fitted, 19inch at the front and 20inch at the rear, which are claimed to save 2kg overall compared to the optional 'Super Lightweight' wheels.

Interior changes include leather upholstery, subtle 50-edition badging and an anniversary dedication plate on the driver's door. Three exterior colour options are offered - carbon black, supernova silver or heritage McLaren orange.

Those who purchase a McLaren 50 will additionally get a tailored black-and-silver car cover, a limited-edition key, a carbonfibre key presentation box and a specially commissioned print signed by McLaren Automotive Design Director, Frank Stephenson.

Prices start at £196,000 for the McLaren 50 12C, rising to £215,500 for the McLaren 50 12C Spider; the anniversary editions command a premium of £20,000 over the standard models.
