Pininfarina Sergio concept to get limited production run

Pininfarina is pressing on with plans to build a limited run of the striking Sergio barchetta concept. “We know the design can be homologated in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, so now we are looking for customers,” Pininfarina chief designer Fabio Filippini told Autocar at the Sergio’s UK debut last week.

Feasibility studies suggest an economic production run of between three and six cars, with a guide price of between £650,000 and £1.3 million.

The body will have to be resurfaced, however, to accommodate a 12mm taller nose, raised to pass pedestrian protection laws. The design will remain windscreen-free, though occupants must wear helmets.

The Sergio, which has been named in honour of Pininfarina's founder who died last year, is based around a Ferrari 458 Spider. The car was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show, and such was the positive reaction from the public that a small production run was considered.
