Six special Bugatti Veyron will be built to commemorate influential people behind the brand

Bugatti will launch six special versions of its 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse over the next year.

The special editions, dubbed Bugatti Legends, will each commemorate individuals who have shaped the history of the brand. Each edition will be strictly limited in production.

The first Legend, which will be unveiled at Pebble Beach on 16-18 August, will be dedicated to Jean-Pierre Wimille. The racing driver won two victories for Bugatti at the 24 Hours of Le Mans - one in 1937 driving a 57G Tank, and again in 1939, this time behind the wheel of a 57C Tank. That car was co-driven by Pierre Veyron.

The GSV is finished in blue-tinted carbonfibre to honour the French racing colours of Wimille.

Just three of the Wimille special editions will be made.

All six Legend cars will be based around the record-breaking 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. The car is powered by an 8.0-litre W16 engine with 1184bhp.

Bugatti

Always thought the Veyron looked like a bug! And it hasn't got any better over the years. Those classic Bugatti's from the 30s are sooo much prettier!

where's the connection ?

The two Le Mans victories were achieved by Automobiles Ettore Bugatti, which went to the wall in 1952.

Volkswagen bought the Bugatti trademark in 1998.

I can see the connection . . . no, really I can.

Senna went to the wall (literally) in 1994. You still feel it ok to use his trademark.
