The BMW 1-series Active Tourer has again been spotted testing, this time with two different derivatives of the car.
These scoops shots of BMW’s upcoming MPV appear to show both five and seven-seat versions of the car. The car in the foreground has a shorter rear door, a more heavily raked leading edge to the C-pillar and a more dramatically angled tailgate window, suggesting it is the five-seater.
Close examination of the car in the background shows a slightly longer rear door, a longer wheelbase, a higher roofline and more upright C-pillar and tailgate window. Although the new BMW MPVs are quite compact, it’s thought that space has been made for a third row of seats.
Already previewed by the Active Tourer concept, these new models are based on the new BMW UKL1 front-wheel drive platform, which will also be used to underpin the Mk3 BMW Mini. Three-cylinder turbocharged diesel and petrol engines will power most versions, while four-wheel drive is also an option with this platform.
BMW has already shown a plug-in hybrid version of the Active Tourer, but that drivetrain is unlikely to be offered on the Mk3 Mini in the medium term, according to BMW sources.
The car has previously been spotted testing in Germany.

BMW MPV
This must be the first MPV by BMW? Does anyone know otherwise?
Looks like a CMax
Although BMWs are seemingly sold to fleets (3, 5 series) and to brand-aware younger drivers (1 series), by the time people need an MPV they start rating value over brand identity. Hence the Scenic still sells well (despite being a Renault). BMW need to get some additional features like significant driver appeal in order to justlfy pricing beyond CMax / Grand CMax levels...
