The Renault Megane receives a minor facelift, as the model takes on the company's new front end

The facelifted Renault Megane has been revealed at the Frankfurt motor show.

Hatchback, coupe and estate models of the car now all sport the new family front-end bumper from Renault, a style which was first seen on the new Renault Clio.

There are very few other cosmetic changes. However, Renault has confirmed that a new 128bhp 1.2-litre 130 TCe petrol engine will be added to the range for the facelift, which will be mated to Renault's EDC dual-clutch gearbox.

Inside customers get minor trim and equipment tweaks, while Renault's R-Link infotainment system has also been added.

The car will be shown alongside other Renault models, including a new concept car teased last week.

Looks good

This facelift is a definite improvement, as was the previous facelift too, yes the Megane is ageing and falling behind its rivals however I wouldn't be surprised that an all new Megane will be with us late next year, this refresh is just to keep it looking fresh and modern looking, which I think it succeeds in doing. (It looks a damn site better than the abomination that is theFocus!)

Yes I think you are right, after ploughing so much R&D into the EV programme, and of course the massive cull of models and they can now turn their sights to core family cars that they do so well. This latest update looks good and i am sure it will find new friends. They have also been working really hard on the dealer experience. Sadly they do not have the reserves of VAG but Dacia is bolstering them up nicely and releasing some much needed capital to develop new cars again. The new Espace in Frankfurt, Twingo and Clio are direct signs of this. we cannot let one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world fail.

Better but...

It does look better but I still don't think this is enough to save the Megane. They should have gone for an entirely new model rather than a facelift as that would attract more buyers. Also I don't like the interior in the current Megane. They should update it in line with the new Clio. I used to own a mk2 Megane 1.5 diesel and I can honestly say I loved it and the engine was a peach. By far the most economical car I have ever owned and was very punchy considering it only had 106bhp. Much better than that 1.6 tdi vag unit.
