Caterham has launched a new Asian arm to grow its brand and create a racing ladder for its vehicles in the Far East.
Caterham Motorsport Asia will initially introduce the Caterham Supersport series to the region, with future possibilities also including karting. The Supersport is powered by a Ford-built 1.6-litre Sigma engine tuned to 140bhp.
Caterham eventually hopes that its Asian motorsport calendar will echo that of Europe. The championship will run over ten rounds at the Sepang International circuit.
The Far East and Malaysia have already been identified by Caterham boss Tony Fernandes as the single most important growing market for the brand. Caterham has already revealed plans for a new SUV and city car, which would both receive final assembly in Asia.
Those new vehicles will most likely be the result of new joint-venture projects, while the company has also recently unveiled its AeroSeven concept for track car drivers, which will be sold from next year.
