Tuner BBR creates high-performance turbocharged Mazda MX-5, capable of sprinting to 60mph in 4.9 seconds

Mazda MX-5 tuner BBR has revealed its latest high-performance version of the sports car, with 268bhp.

The latest BBR-tuned MX-5, designated GT270, is capable of covering the 0-60mph sprint in 4.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 150mph.

BBR has modified the MY2013 Mazda MX-5 Sport Tech roadster coupé's 2.0-litre petrol engine, fitting a new turbocharger that increases power by 110bhp over the standard car to 268bhp, and torque to 227lb ft.

The tuner has also fitted a number of electronic upgrades, including a new launch-control system with four driver-selectable ECU modes as well as full-throttle shift and auto-throttle blip functions. The chassis has also been re-tuned, which BBR says makes "dramatic" changes to the handling dynamics of the MX-5.

The car weighs in at 1190kg, 71kg less than the standard car, and has a power-to-weight ratio of 225bhp per tonne.

The car will be built in a strictly limited run of 100 numbered units, and is priced at £29,995.

BBR has already set a performance precedent for the MX-5, releasing its 285bhp BBR GTI version of the car earlier this year.
