The Audi TT offroader concept show car demonstrates that the TT can become a family of models, company boss Rupert Stadler revealed to Autocar.
Speaking at the Beijing motor show, Stadler admitted that the show car could point the way to Audi's sports car turning into a sub brand and hinted heavily that it could make production as the 'TT Q'.
"The TT can be a family," he said. "This concept shows that we can do it and long as the genetic code is kept".
Stadler explained that the 'genetic code' equals the TT's distinctive wheel arches, narrow side glass, rear lights and the distinctive interior – all present on the Chinese show concept car.
However he maintained that extensions to the TT family would not include a saloon or a bigger car. "The TT should be an icon and that icon has to be respected and that means a compact car that's sporty to drive." he said.
