Toyota has released new pictures of its virtual-only FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo racing car, which will be made available to download and drive in the Gran Turismo 6 video game.
The latest model to be revealed as part of the Vision Gran Turismo project - part of celebrations for the franchise's 15th anniversary - the racing FT-1 is an evolution of the concept car revealed at the Detroit motor show earlier this year.
Inspired by classic Toyota designs including the Supra, the Future Toyota 1 concept is powered by a conventional combustion engine with no hybrid elements. Officials wouldn't be drawn on specifics when the car was unveiled, only saying it was "high output".
Modifications over the standard FT-1 for this racing version include wider wheel arches with larger tyres, larger air intakes for better cooling, a new fixed rear wing and more aerodynamic bodywork for greater downforce. A new rear diffuser can also be seen.
Other recent entries in the Vision Gran Turismo project include Nissan's Concept 2020 and the Aston Martin DP100, both of which made their debuts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.
Joining the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is a new real-world version of the FT-1, which swaps the original car's red paintwork for new graphite colouring. Toyota says the model's look has been inspired by superhero costumes.
Inside, Toyota has re-skinned the FT-1's cabin with new materials. Designer Selene Lee said: "We wanted the driver to have a feeling of flow while at the wheel - to be able to focus on the road and nothing else."
The two new versions of the FT-1 will be available to download in the Gran Turismo 6 game from September.
