The fastest version of the Seat Leon is now available across all three of the model’s body styles, with the ST estate the third to be offered in Cupra form.

It gets the same powerful engine and upgrades to equipment as the three-door and five-door hatchback Cupra models and is due to arrive in UK dealers in March.

However, while the hatchback Cupras are offered with a choice of two power outputs, the ST comes in the more powerful form only.

This means the estate gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 276bhp and 258lb ft. It is marginally slower from 0-62mph than the hatch, with the manual version completing the benchmark sprint in 6.1sec, while the DSG dual-clutch gearbox-equipped version takes 6.0sec. Both models have a limited top speed of 155mph.

Economy and emissions figures are not confirmed yet, but they are likely to be similar to those of the hatchback, which emits 154g/km of CO2 and has a claimed combined economy figure of 42.8mpg.

The ST comes with dynamic chassis control (DCC), high-performance brakes, a front differential, alloy wheels, DAB radio, sat-nav, a black rear spoiler, red brake callipers and automatic lights and wipers as standard.

A Sub8 Performance Pack will also be offered. It costs £2025 and brings bigger Brembo brakes, side skirts and 19-inch alloys in black or orange.

Pricing starts at £28,505 for the manual version, while the DSG-equipped model starts at £29,860.

It looks like the ST is the one to have. Corners would be 'fun' without a front differential!

Sweet chariot

Nice alternative to a 3-series estate. So, who is going to have the fastest Labradors in your town? ;-)
