The Mazda 5 is still available to order, but production is stopping with no replacement planned

The Mazda 5 will soon go out of production and will not be replaced, company officials have confirmed.

The popularity of the seven-seat MPV has been diminished by five- and seven-seat SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai and Nissan X-Trail, and sales of the model now stand only in the hundreds every year in the UK.

The Mazda 5 is still available to order and models do remain in stock, but production is being wound down and no replacement is forthcoming.

Once the Mazda MX-5 reaches the UK in August, the Mazda 5 would be the only Mazda not built on or powered by its SkyActiv technology, and given the popularity of SUVs, the decision has been taken by Mazda not to build another MPV.

That's a shame...

... just as BMW invests in this area, Mazda bow out. I was fond of the (US spec) 5 with good space and easy access. Seemed good to drive too if a little lacking in front end grip at times. Sadly Mazda never updated it (i.e. they invested in a 2-based CX-3 instead of a 3-based MPV).

Nagare

I think this marks the end of Mazda's short-lived "Nagare" design language with its peculiar wave like creases in the bodysides. As far as I'm aware, these never appeared on any other model.
