The second generation of Skoda's quirky MPV gets van underpinnings

These are the first spy shots of the 2016 Skoda Roomster.

We spotted this heavily disguised prototype undergoing road testing.

It's rumoured Skoda's new MPV will be based on the passenger version of the Volkswagen Caddy and, even disguised, it's easy to see the similarities between the two.

The sliding doors of the prototype are clearly visible in the images, but it's yet to be confirmed if the production version will do away with the conventional doors of the outgoing model.

We expect the new Roomster to go on sale next year.

Tall roof, low floor. Still fit for the only purpose I have ever seen it used for, wheelchair transport.

I don't see anything, in these pictures, to suggest the disguised vehicle is anything other than a van.

So goldenboy Skoda gets a new Roomster, but no new Altea for SEAT of course.

Shame, I had an Altea and it was brilliant.

Maybe they see the Leon ST as a suitable replacement.
