Skoda has four new SUVs in the works, with everything from a Juke rival to a large coupe-style model planned

Skoda is planning a coupe SUV to sit alongside its forthcoming five- and seven- seat crossover that's due on sale early in 2017.

The 4.7m-long SUV - as yet unnamed but not likely to be called Snowman, according to Skoda insiders - has now been finalised. It features a clamshell bonnet, slim rectangular headlights, LED daytime running lights that incorporate indicators, and a sharp horizontal crease just before its window line.

Cabin space in the new model is on a par with the Skoda Superb's, according to sources - and the substantial boot can be extended further by moving either or both parts of the 60/40 split rear seat forwards by about 17cm.

The car will be offered as a five- or a seven-seat model, with UK prices likely to start from around £24,000.

Skoda is also considering a more sporty five-door model, sitting on the same wheelbase but with around 12cm less overhang than on the regular model. It also features a more rakish roofline and more compromised rear packaging - factors which are likely to lead to Skoda waiting for Western European reaction to the regular SUV before deciding whether its traditional buyers are ready to accept a more style-focused model.

The coupe SUV is considered likely to make production in China, though, where there is less brand legacy than in Europe.

The regular SUV will make its public debut late next year, with UK sales starting early in 2017. It will then be joined in 2018 by the next Yeti, which gets more subtle, conservative looks to fit in with the SUV family's looks.

Sell like hot cakes

This will sell like hot cakes , especially to those who are disenfranchised by Volvo pushing the new XC90 upmarket (and out of budget) from the previous model.

Skoda do need a large 7

Skoda do need a large 7-seater, there is a significant market for one. Lets hope the stupid mock-up picture is nothing like the final product!

Skoda's SUVs

Please could someone explain the above paragraph 'China....less brand legacy.....'

@Dolphinman

I guess this means Skoda has a no-nonsense, sensible and functional reputation in Europe and something as frivolous and, well, dumb as a "SUV coupe" would sit uneasily in their range there. The Chinese have no such preconceptions, so might buy into it. However, the regular seven-seat SUV should be a great seller, given that Skoda is, effectively, the new Volvo.
