All 500 units of the McLaren 675 LT Spider have been sold, just two weeks after the reveal of the limited-run drop-top

All 500 units of the McLaren 675LT Spider have sold out, even though it was only officially revealed on 3 DecemberThe news comes ahead of the car's first official outing - an appearance at the Geneva motor show in March 2016.

At £285,450, the Spider is £28,000 more expensive than the coupé 675LT; it has the same 2.9sec 0-62mph sprint, with only a 2mph decrease in top speed compared with the coupé.

Although the Spider is fitted with the same 3.8-litre V8 engine as the coupe, it has a long list of revised mechanicals, including weight-saving components and more efficient turbochargers. It maintains the same 666bhp power output, and 515lb ft of torque, with fuel economy of 24.1mpg and emissions of 275g/km.

The roof of the Spider - a three-piece folding hardtop - can be operated at speeds of up to 19mph. Although the Spider weighs 40kg more than the coupé, it is 100kg lighter overall than the 650S Spider.

Despite the usual strengthenings associated with the conversion from coupé to convertible, McLaren said that its carbon tub was strong enough to warrant no additional structure during the convertible's development.

To celebrate the sell-out success of the 675LT Spider, McLaren has released a new video of the car in action on road and track:

Ferrari is Ferrari

I agree with you. Ferrari is an incredible brand. I was merely commenting on McLaren's Ferrari-like ability to sell their models so quickly.

Not really

Mclaren is getting better at building cars with a bit of soul but they are still primarily performance oriented and all their models look very similar (much like 911) and all models have that one engine, but in different trim levels. They still got a long way to reach Ferrari level of desirability. So no, Ferrari has no competition to worry about.

Like you say they finally seem to appreciate that a cars ability to provide enjoyment isn't just provided by clinical attention to details or facts and figures but has to be able to stimulate on an emotional level as well, something that Ferrari are seemingly able to nail more often than not. P1 aside (so largely irrelevant) I don't think I would have even considered a Mclaren over it's direct competition until the LT was released but I'm sure that if the company carries on with it's seemingly new found philosophy to provide genuine entertainment from it's car's more and more will see them as a perfectly able alternative to a Ferrari for example. So yes I would say that Ferrari do now have a significantly more capable competitor to worry about even if they still can't quite be matched by the likes of Mclaren for overall desireabilty as every sale of a Mclaren car could potentially have been a sale of a one of their own

Go McLaren go

Great to see McLaren doing so well with each of their new reveal. Ferrari has got some real competition.
