Larger Scenic follows regular model by swapping MPV looks for crossover styling; five and seven-seat options available

The new Renault Grand Scenic will go on sale later this year, featuring new exterior and interior styling, new technology and more space than before.

Following on from the five-seat Renault Scenic, which made its debut at the Geneva motor show, comes the new Grand Scenic. It can seat up to seven passengers, or be  bought with just five seats.

This new model is taller, longer, wider and sits higher off the ground than the car it replaces – something which equates to more interior space, and also helps to give the Grand Scenic more of an SUV profile, rather than that of a traditional MPV. The new car will sit on 20in alloy wheels as standard.

There’s a total of 718 litres of storage space inside the Grand Scenic – 40 litres more than before.

Engine options are the same as the regular five-seat Scenic, with diesels forming the core of the range and producing up to 158bhp. Among the choices will be a Hybrid Assist diesel model, which should offer the best fuel economy.

Another squashed roof car...

I like it but it screams out for another inch or two of glass height to balance the looks (and brighten the interior of what is a family car after all). When will this obsession for squashed rooflines end....

Audi cookie cutter design

So Renault took the new Espace, shrunk it a bit in the wash and gave the side window line a kink. Pathetic copy of the very beautiful Espace. Great way to get NO-ONE to buy the Escape guys. Why pay more for something like the Espace when you can buy a Grand Scenic that looks EXACTLY the same for less?!?!

A better way for NO-ONE to buy the Espace would be to not to sell it over here, which they don't.

Why go German?

This looks great. Modern and sharp and dare I say it a wee bit 'premium'. The Germans have never looked so dull. It used to be that if you wanted a reliable, quality car you more or less had to go German but now that the non-premium brands build cars every bit as reliable and good to drive as the Germans with the added bonus of a bit of style – whats not to love? Oh, and they're a lot cheaper too and maybe increased desirability will help long term residuals.
