What is it?
As with other Volkswagen R-Line models, this version of the Volkswagen Touran adds a bit of visual aggression to the mix. This comes in the shape of sportier-looking front and rear bumpers, chromed twin exhaust tips, 18in alloy wheels and some R-Line badging.
Those hoping for a modern day equivalent of the Vauxhall Zafira VXR will have to keep looking, though. The most power possible is 187bhp from a 2.0-litre diesel although we're looking at the more popular 148bhp variant. You can at least opt for a sports suspension package that drops the ride height by 15mm and should tighten the handling a little.
Other than that, it’s much the same as any other Touran. That means five regular seats plus a couple of smaller pews that fold into the boot floor. With these stowed, there’s a huge boot while the rest of the interior is as classy as you’d expect from a modern VW.
