The XM name is back – not on a Citroën but on a Mitsubishi, thanks to this new crossover MPV concept, the XM.
The XM concept will make its world debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show later this month and marks an evolution of the eX concept unveiled last year. At least some of the XM’s features will be seen on the production version of a new small crossover MPV, which will be released in October 2017 and built in West Java, Indonesia.
Designed, in Mitsubishi’s words, to mix the toughness of an SUV with the versatility of an MPV, the name comes from fusing X for crossover with M for MPV. With a wide body and space for seven inside, the XM is targeted at large families.
No interior images have been released yet, but the XM will feature a dashboard designed to accentuate the width of the car, and a wide, elevated centre console. The concept will have a black and white high-contrast interior with silver accents for what the car maker says will be a refined look.
No information about the powertrain has been revealed, but the eX sported an electric motor and all-wheel drive, so expect a similar set-up here. Mitsubishi says generous ground clearance and underbody protection will allow the XM to be driven with confidence on unpaved roads and through tropical squalls of the type that Indonesia experiences on a frequent basis.
