Mountune has produced a performance upgrade kit for the Ford Focus RS that increases its power output to 370bhp and torque to 376lb ft.
That’s a gain of 25bhp and 52lb ft of torque for the car’s turbocharged 2.3-litre engine, shortening its 0-62mph sprint time to 4.5sec – two tenths of a second faster than before.
This brings the RS into close contention with the more expensive Mercedes-AMG A45, which completes the same the sprint just three tenths quicker but slots into the class above, costing from £40,000.
Mountune’s RS kit includes a high-performance air filter, bespoke alloy crossover duct with high-performance silicone hoses, an upgraded air recirculation valve and revised software tuning for the car's ECU.
Fitment of the parts can be carried out by any Mountune-approved Ford dealer. The job is said to take just an hour and a half, for a total cost of £899. Therefore, added to the Focus’s £31,000 entry-level price, a Mountune-spec RS will cost £31,899.
The kit is fully approved by Ford Performance, with the division’s Autocar award-winning engineering manager, Tyrone Johnson, saying: “Ford has a proud history of working with Mountune to unleash even more power from our hot hatchbacks for dedicated performance enthusiasts. Boosting power to 370bhp launches the already class-leading Focus RS even further ahead of the field.”
Mountune offered its first upgrades for the Focus RS back in May, with lighter wheels, a big brake kit and Quaife differential being the key items on the lengthy list of parts.
