The Mazda CX-4 SUV will not be sold in Europe, Mazda R&D boss Kiyoshi Fujiwara has confirmed.
The swoopy CX-4 was designed as a China-only model because the market is so swamped with similar products, according to Fujiwara. He added that because there is little brand loyalty in China, you have to have stand-out designs to sell cars.
"China is a market where there are all sorts of different vehicles, so you need a distinctive product," he said.
Fujiwara also confirmed that Mazda will not expand its range of SUVs any further despite the continued growth of SUV sales across all segments.
"Adding any more SUVs to our line-up would give Mazda too many car lines," he said. "Instead we want to focus on its current offering."
Fujiwara added that Mazda's sales network would also need to grow if it were to support any extra models.
