Land Rover Classic programme has restored this 3.5-litre V8 model that produces 132bhp

The first Range Rover Reborn model to come out of the Land Rover Classic programme has been revealed.

Based on the first two-door version that was launched in 1970, the car is a Bahama Gold-coloured 1978 model. It’s been restored to exact original specification using Land Rover Classic parts and period production techniques.

The car features a 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine, which uses Zenith Stromberg carburettors to produce 132bhp at 5000rpm and 186lb ft of torque at 2500rpm.

Drive is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with a lockable central differential. The car’s technical specifications are exactly as they were when it left the factory nearly 40 years ago.

Today’s model is the first of 10 to be restored by Land Rover’s specialist division. Each model is created for buyers who can purchase them from £135,000, which is close to £35,000 more than a new V8-engine Range Rover.

Sister brand Jaguar Classic also showed one of nine restored XKSS models and the first restored E-Type Fixed Head Coupé alongside the Range Rover in Paris.

Still the best

Timeless design.

I have 3.5 efi that I drive everyday perfectly capable of keeping up with today's traffic, often surprises the silly little 2.0 diesel cross over.

Still one of only 2 or 3 cars to be exhibited at louvre as a piece of art . Still the only standard car that can get as far as a defender off road.

Police hold records of all road accidents on all models of cars new and old and land rover defender and classic range rover lead safety with less than 1 percent chance of driver and passenger receiving serious injury or death safe as a house tables up to and including the year 2010

Hugely advanced ,having traction control and full active air suspension by early 90s along with auto locking diff, no need to fiddle with anything.

As comfortable as anything out there today.

Don't care only get 16 miles per gallon. I save the planet by driving a 30 year old car.

Wouldn't go near the chav new range rovers bmw merc or audi fashion accessories.

They will sell loads as there are some people who want a bit of class.

I saw one of these quite recently and thought is looked very fragile and spindly making me wonder why I thought they looked so good when new.
Oh how the passage of time changes ones impressions

The New Avenger 1976. I

The New Avenger 1976. I remember late Patrick McNee & Gareth Hunt both drove 1 of the Range Rover model Patrick drove a Dark Green one which got blown up in the episode obsession Where Martin Shaw & Late Lewis Collins was in before they started the Professionals days. Gareth as Mike Gambit drove a White colour model although it survived & he died 10 years ago in cancel. I use to see a few in Australia. There a few in the Return of the The Saint.
