The Citröen C5 Aircross has been leaked ahead of the car's official unveiling at the Shanghai motor show

The car has now been officially revealed - get full details here

Citröen's answer to the Nissan Qashqai can be seen in full in the images, with both the interior and exterior styling laid bare. The car leaked onto a French car forum.

It's clear to see from the official photos that the C5 Aircross carries the styling of the Aircross concept, first shown at the Shanghai show two years ago, albeit in a more toned-down form than the concept's zany styling.

Like the concept, Citröen's quirky airbump cladding appears on the car, in a more developed form. Overall, the design draws heavily from the Citroen C3; the supermini's styling could well preview the look of the entire Citröen lineup.

The interior features a large amount of brown leather, with a dominant central infotainment touchscreen and separate digital display - presumably derived from Peugeot's i-Cockpit - in place of the car's dials and speedo.

Elsewhere in the cabin, the automatic gear lever confirms that the car will get an auto 'box, while a rotary knob suggests an advanced traction control system. This doesn't guarantee all-wheel drive; Citröen offers its Grip Control front-wheel drive off-road-friendly traction control system elsewhere in the range. Regardless, the car is likely to have four-wheel drive in the upper spec levels.

Full details of the C5 Aircross will be revealed at the car's official debut at the Shanghai motor show next week, but this comprehensive leak leaves very little to the imagination.

Thankfully the French are no longer trying to be German

Unlike the C3 the C5 Aircross' styling still looks wacky, avant garde and decidedly French looking even with the plastic add-ons, like the air bumps, toned down. Take the plastic off the C3 and it seems much more conventional. Either way it seems the 3 French companies are thankfully getting their mojo back with their styling and reintroducing French weirdness back which can only be applauded after a decade or so taking a leaf out of the Germans' book for car styling.

Looks great! nice to see a car with a 'happy face' almost Disney like. Fed up of seeing Range Rover products scowling at me in my rear mirror.

I absolutely agree. How refreshing.

The first SUV I would consider buying.
