SMMT
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) acts as the voice of the UK motor industry, supporting and promoting its position to government, stakeholders and the media at home and abroad. We are delighted to support this new initiative by Autocar. 814,000 people are now employed in the automotive industry in Britain and with record exports and productivity it is an exciting time to join the industry. There are at least 5,000 skilled vacancies in automotive manufacturing, underlining a critical need to attract more talent. We hope this event will help inspire young women considering their career prospects.

Ford
Only 14 per cent of engineering graduates and three per cent of engineering apprentices in the UK are women. Attracting, recruiting and retaining women is one of Ford’s key diversity objectives as we know that, right across our business, diverse teams make more informed decisions, are more successful at managing change, and are better able to reflect the needs and aspirations of our customers. It is important that we have not only the polices and process that support women through significant stages of their lives, but that we are also highlight the many talented women who are already part of our organisation, and make Ford Motor Company Limited a great place to work. By raising the profile of female role models we hope to inspire the next generation of women to pursue a career in the automotive industry.
Jaguar Land Rover
Jaguar Land Rover, the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer, was voted the best employer in Britain in a Bloomberg survey of workers in the country’s 400 biggest companies. Recruiting more women is a priority: it’s essential that we attract the best talent to develop the products and technologies that excite and delight our customers. Our own Orla Murphy was the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2015 and we work with the Institute to promote engineering careers and inspire girls. Since 2013 we have promoted engineering to more than 900,000 young people.
