The Honda Urban EV supermini unveiled last month is quickly followed by an electric sports car from the car maker

Honda will unveil a new electric sports car at the Tokyo motor show, hot on the heels of its electric Urban EV super mini revealed at Frankfurt show last month.

While the Urban EV has been confirmed for production in 2019, there is no word on when the Sports EV will arrive.

Honda said the sports car concept has “a striking silhouette, friendly face and supple body surfaces” to suit any lifestyle.

The image released, which teases the car ahead of its full reveal, shows square tail-lights on the compact coupe, suggesting it will have styling similarities to the Urban EV. The image also shows a swooping roofline and bulging fenders.

Honda added that the car has been designed to “deliver a feeling of joy and emotional unity”, achieved by combining an electric powertrain and artificial intelligence technology in a compact bodyshape.

While the Honda NSX exists as the brand’s halo sports car, the car maker has not had a compact sports car since the S2000 went off sale in 2009.

Honda doesn’t currently sell any electric models in Europe. However, it does sell a pure electric Clarity in Japan and America.

At Tokyo motor show, there will also be Japanese debuts for Honda's Urban EV Concept, Honda NeuV - an electric mobility concept first seen at CES in January - and the new CR-V.

Possible next car??

I loved the Urban EV concept, but on the basis of this sketch I could imagine this being my next car if its produced and has an MX5/Abarth 124 Spider-ish price tag attached.

Shows promise

It's only a glimpse, but from what I can see in the photo, the design has a lot of potential. So that's now two good designs from Honda in a row. Could a theme be developing.....
