The firm considers none of his SUVs launches thus far to be premium? Not quite: their point refers to the ‘8’ badge in the Q8’s name, which is reserved for its range-topping models - and this is the first time it’s arrived on an SUV.

That’s significant, for we are now at a point where one of the big three German brands considers a luxury SUV rather than a luxury saloon to be the pinnacle of its brand - echoing sister brand Volkswagen, which refers to the recently launched Touareg as the ‘flagship’ of its range.
A pinnacle of its brand launched outside of Germany, too. The launch location of the Q8, Shenzhen, is no coincidence. It shows Audi’s commitment to the Chinese market where it has topped the premium sales charts for 30 years, and also to Shenzhen, widely acknowledged as the tech capital of China.
China is a market where Audi will launch 10 new SUVs by 2022, seven of them built here. A place too where it’ll launch another five ‘new energy vehicles’, electrified models for China, four of which will be built here.
It’s a market where Audi has launched its own vast dedicated R&D centre to build and tailor cars specifically to Chinese tastes, and one that has become one of its key global proving grounds in the development of autonomous vehicles, in a market that is showing far greater and more open acceptance to their arrival.

Supply/demand isn't a normal phenomenon, it is anything but a physical or organic power like the climate or photosynthesis. Inferring that S/D is even a thought for why electric vehicles are produced in China is about as significant as a nourishment investigator reprimanding the auto business for not having quite enough Vitamin D. China's not making it to pacify markets of impeccable rivalry, China's endeavoring to comprehend an externality, and they are most likely doing the best out of it right now.

...and it's been this way for a good while. While we were getting austerity the chinese were buying european cars hand over fist. That's why cars like the 5 series have suddenly become so large in the rear and "slightly dynamically unfocused" for the past generation. It used to be california was the principle market, however looking at way "cars" have been heading for the past 10 years or so I would say spot on to the china theory, It could also be the underlying reason for BMW going FWD for the 1 series.
I am sorry, but to suggest
I cannot think of a single thing they have done to contribute to the design, engineering, style and character of cars.
Piddly electric cars and fake Range Rovers are pathetic for a country of that size and supposed aspiration.
The centres of the car world are Europe, the US and Japan. And then Korea. And then China. That is not about to change.

1.4 billion consumers, that's China. 1.4 billion people who want to be like us. China might one day be the centre of something but for the timebeing it's just a place where people buy in bulk whatever we in the West design and manufacture.
