Fast four-door will arrive in the coming days as Affalterbach's four-wheel-drive, 302bhp answer to the BMW M240i

Mercedes-AMG has hinted at the imminent unveiling of its new CLA 35 four-door coupé with a preview image released on social media.

REVEALED: 2019 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 arrives at New York with 302bhp

The most powerful model in the new CLA range (until the CLA 45 arrives) will feature the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder unit as the Mercedes-AMG A 35 hot hatch, producing 302bhp and 295lb ft of torque.

A limited top speed of 155mph is likely, but added weight over the hatchback means the CLA 35 can be expected to fall slightly short of that car’s 4.7sec 0-62mph time.

The four-wheel drive system and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will make their way over unchanged, which means the CLA 35 will benefit from the 4Matic Sport driving mode.

Mercedes-AMG is positioning the CLA 35 as the more style-focused alternative to the recently unveiled A35 Saloon, which is 4549mm long – 139mm shorter than the CLA.

Following this latest model will be the range-topping CLA 45, using the same hardware as the 400bhp A45 super-hatch, which is set to be unveiled later this year.
