Do you like cars? Do you like superheroes? Then how do you fancy a superhero-themed car?

Believe it or not, one now exists: the Hyundai Kona Iron Man edition. The special model was unveiled at the global launch of Hyundai’s new SUV in Korea this week. It stood out from a fleet of other Kona on display with a number of design tweaks, including a stylish matte grey paint scheme, bigger bumpers – and Iron Man-logo wheels.

It's hard to know how many compact SUV buyers might actually want to drive around in a car with looks inspired by a Marvel Comics character although, to be honest, the Kona Iron Man looks far more tasteful than you might expect from a superhero-themed special.

The Kona Iron Man arguably isn’t the oddest film-themed special edition to come out recently. That might belong to the Nissan Rogue: Rogue One. For no real discernable reason other than the car and film both having Rogue in their titles, this was a Star Wars-themed special edition of the SUV known in the UK as the Nissan X-Trail.

It featured a host of featured Star Wars logo kick plates and cup holders with Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance logos. Oh, and it came with a limited edition Death Trooper helmet. Obviously.

Not every weird special edition is based around a film. Many a manufacturer has made a special edition themed around a racing driver they have an affiliation with: remember the Infiniti FX Vettel or the Citroen C2 by Loeb?

There are other oddities too: Bentley recently launched a Bentley Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner special, featuring all the equipment you need to travel with your falcons, such as a master flight station. That was a successor to the Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner.

All of which brings us to this week’s ‘have your say’ question: can you do better? What special edition cars would you like to see on the roads – and why?
