Can something that’s safe and boring also be radical?
You see, the new Volkswagen ID 2all concept looks exactly like you would expect a Volkswagen to look. Which, confusingly, is wholly unexpected.
In the electric era, Volkswagen has often seemed like it’s trying to escape its rich heritage. It opted against using classic model names for its bespoke EVs, preferring the new ID sub-brand, and it gave those models their own distinct, EV-focused styling.
And they’ve been fine. They just haven’t been very… Volkswagen. And when you’ve got a brand with such a rich heritage of hugely popular, genre-defining cars, that’s a waste. What helps Volkswagen stand apart from the many new rivals chasing its customers is that familiarity, that heritage, that genuine warmth many feel for the brand.
So the ID 2all doesn’t look particularly revolutionary, or futuristic, or even electric. It looks like a Volkswagen. And for a long-time Polo or Golf driver who loves their car but is considering the switch to an EV, that’s a very good thing.

I think the car looks good.
Not everyone wants to anounce their decision to drive an EV, by driving a car suitable for Coco the clown..... or for that matter as dull as the ID3.
I do think the car looks very 'now'. Not sure it will look so good in 3 years time....long lead time!
This still has a stupid interior though.
2026 for this car? - It should be now!
Also VW need to be able to build it in 10 hours like Tesla does with the M3, inorder to retain its profitability.
I seriously think that VW will be in serious financial problems by 2026 and will failshortly there after.
VW has lost its way, design wise. They're floundering at this point. This bland, generic blob is not the answer. Incredible that they no doubt have a team of talented designers and modern computing to ease the process and this is the best they can do?
No doubt not the designers fault, the good stuff likely rejected by management. They need to remember that the cars that this hopeless blob is attempting recall had an asperational and upmarket air. It says something that Korean brands have a more premium vibe than VW now.
Seriously. Hyundai and Kia have far better designed cars on sale today than this supposed design showcase.
