Audi Quattro S1 E2
The monstrous Group B rally cars from the 1980s are always a huge crowd favourite on the Festival of Speed’s rally stage - and they were just as spectacular on the Speed Week’s mixed surface special stage. The Audi Quattro S1 E2 was introduced at the end of the 1985 season, and was the ultimate iteration of the groundbreaking machine.

AC Cobra and Ford Mustang GT-S1
Two very different types of endurance racer. The 1964 AC Cobra was raced by Oliver Bryant and Andrew Smith in the RAC TT Celebration. Meanwhile, the Ford Mustang is pure American muscle, powered by a 750hp V8 engine. It was built for the 1995 SCCA Trans-Am sports car championship, and took part in the Speedweek shoot-out.

Chevrolet Camaro

Le Mans cars
Goodwood organisers sorted an amazing collection of endurance races for Speed Week, with several Ford GT40 joining a host of race-winning Porsche and Jaguar models.

Lotus-Ford 91
Lotus struggled in Formula 1 early in the 1980s, hampered by over-complicated cars that were difficult to sort and proved uncompetitive as a result. For 1982 the team went back to basics with the Lotus 91, and the result was a step forward in competitiveness. Elio de Angelis used the machine to win that year’s Austrian GP, Lotus’s first victory in four years.

Toyota Corolla and Porsche 904
The Speed Week paddock featured a huge diversity of machinery. Tom Ingram’s current Toyota Corolla British Touring Car Championship racer was parked up next to a 1964 Porsche 904 GTS endurance racer in the paddock.

Lotus F1 cars
Norfolk marque Lotus has a truly rich Formula 1 history, with founder Colin Chapman and his team helping to pioneer ideas and innovations that changed the sport. Classic Team Lotus brought along an amazing collection of the firm's racers to take part in the Formula 1 70th anniversary celebration.

Porsche 917K
Appearing as part of a celebration of Porsche’s success in the Le Mans 24 Hours, this is the 917K that Richard Attwood and Hans Hermann used to take the marque’s first outright win in the event in 1969. Attwood drove it in the Speedweek demonstration run.

Ford Escort Mk2
Jason Lepley leads the queue for the start of the rally stage in his Ford Escort RS1800, as used by Bjorn Waldegard and Ari Vatanen to win World Rally Championship titles in 1979 and 1981 respectively. Edwardian racing cars
The SF Edge Trophy races at Speedweek were held for Edwardian racing cars produced before 1923. Some of the machines featured up to 23 litre engines, producing a thunderous noise around the Goodwood circuit. Williams-Honda FW11
Used in the 1986 and ’87 seasons, the Williams-Honda FW11 was hugely successful. Drivers Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell used it to take 18 wins, with Williams winning the constructors’ championship in both season. Piquet won the ’87 drivers’ title, although Alain Prost nicked the crown for McLaren in 1986.
