After a stint on the Autocar work experience program earlier in the year, Danny joined the team in December 2024 as Editorial Assistant for Autocar. Here, his role is to contribute towards the publishing and scheduling of various different online stories and galleries for Autocar and sister-title Classic & Sports Car.
Danny has long dreamed of becoming an automotive journalist; previously, he had experience working in the local news industry, where he had several stories published – the most exciting of which was focused on an up-and-coming talent in the world of motorsport, fresh from a British Formula 4 and GB3 championship double. Now, he couldn’t be more excited to work for Autocar, and put his life-long love of anything automotive into practise.
Danny is an expert in:
Best car you’ve ever driven?
Objectively, the best car I’ve ever driven would be a 911 Targa 4S at Porsche’s Silverstone Experience Centre, as it was just such a competent package – It looked great, sounded great, was incredibly agile and confidence-inspiring, and I’d be lying if I said the launch controls didn’t make me feel slightly ill. But, it narrowly misses out on being my favourite car I’ve driven – that title instead goes to my 2004 Renault Clio 182, simply for the fact that it never, ever fails to make me grin like an idiot whenever I drive it (and whenever it works…)
What will the car industry look like in 20 years?
This is a very difficult question, as there are so many factors at play. Two years ago I would have quiet confidently said that we’d all be driving around in electric cars, however the recent backlash against them from the public has been brutal for car companies, so now I’m not so sure.
For all we know, there could be a major breakthrough in hydrogen technology, or with synthetic fuels, that would render electric cars less relevant. The one thing I’m certain of is that, in one way or another, there will still be a car industry in 20 years, and that’s all it’ll take for me to be happy – so long as we’re still allowed out occasionally in our petrol-powered relics too.
