The Porsche Macan has scored a maximum five-star rating in the latest round of crash test results released by Euro NCAP.
It is the first time that a Porsche has undergone the stringent crash test, and the the SUV scored well across the four categories. It did particularly well in the passenger sectors, scoring 88 per cent and 87 per cent for adult and child occupant protection. It managed the maximum five-star score despite not being fitted with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) as standard.

There are 12 results in the latest round, with seven cars scoring five stars, four getting four stars, and the Dacia Logan the only one to get a three-star rating. The Logan was criticised for its performance in several areas; for example, it scored a relatively low 57 per cent in the adult occupant protection category. This was because driver chest protection was rated as weak, while the feet and ankles were also poorly protected.
As well as the Macan, the other SUVs tested were the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX and the Kia Sorento, all of which also scored five stars. Of those, the Discovery Sport comes with AEB as standard, while the other two feature it as an option.
The other cars to get five stars are the 2015 Ford Mondeo, the 2015 Volkswagen Passat, and the Subaru Outback.
The Mini Hatch, the Smart Fortwo and the Forfour, and the Vauxhall Corsa all recorded four stars. The Mini missed out on the top score partly for a relatively low safety systems score of 56 per cent, due in part to the absence of standard-fit AEB and lane departure warning aids.
The Corsa scored similarly for its safety equipment fitment, but was singled out for praise for its Side Blind Sport Alert, for which Euro NCAP gave it an advanced reward.
