Reinforced saloon can withstand most ballistic attacks

BMW has launched its new 7-series High Security, designed to transport world leaders and politicians around in safety.

The BMW 7-series High Security can withstand impacts from most common assault weapons, with its chassis reinforcements, reinforced armour plating, and an advanced "safety glazing", which offers extra protection for the windows.

Other changes include an armoured undercarriage, gap sealing (to prevent bullets/shrapnel from entering the cabin), and multi-layer laminated glass windows.

Inside, it gets an intercom system, an assault alarm, a fire extinguishing system, and an internal air supply system that automatically activates if a gas attack is detected.

High Security models can also be fitted with a centre console-mounted machine gun case, integrated LED flashing lights, an acoustic signalling system, and security radios.

The 7-series High Security is available with either a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 or a 6.0-litre V12. BMW has not announced any pricing.
