Currently reading: Skoda Kodiaq GT coupé bound for Europe

Although originally destined for China, a positive European reaction will likely bring the model to multiple markets

Demand for the Skoda Kodiaq Coupé is exceeding expectations – but manufacturing constraints could still delay the car’s launch outside China.

The Kodiaq Coupé was conceived as a car for the Chinese market and will launch there in 2018. However, the positive reaction to the idea of its styling in Europe and other markets means it will likely become available there when supply allows.

Recently leaked product plan slides show the car's name as being the Kodiaq GT, reflecting the more sporting appeal of the model.

“Customers have expressed plenty of interest,” said Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier. “Worldwide production is part of the equation, though – we expect the group to find some capacity this year, but it is still under discussion.”

The Kodiaq GT is seen as a crucial test bed for Skoda’s brand strength, as it will likely push transaction prices to its highest point yet. If it reaches Europe, it'll face in-house competition from an upcoming Seat coupé SUV, due to arrive in 2020 as one of the first models launched under what will then be a stand-alone Cupra brand.

These will be among the first larger coupé SUVs outside of the premium segment. BMW sparked the niche in 2008 with the BMW X6, and it has since spread across the premium segment, with rivals from Mercedes-Benz, and upcoming entries from Audi

Hideous!

I like the Kodiaq, but this coupe is just wrong, wrong wrong. And far worse than the last Skoda coupe - the Estelle!

Not bad

I don't think it looks too bad, not a coupe more a large hatch like an octavia, infact it would look better lowered to octavia height and then it would be a nice looking octavia replacement when due.
