Twitter and Instagram users decided performance crossover variant's final specification

The Ford Puma ST Gold Edition will go on sale later this year, featuring bespoke design elements decided by Ford fans through social media platforms.

Voting began at the start of June, with Ford followers able to specify the name of the special edition, as well as its exterior colour, interior finishes and body decals.

The Gold Edition features gold wheels with red brake calipers, a grey racing stripe with gold trim, black paint, gold seat stitching and carbonfibre interior trim. Fans also voted for a bespoke badging set.

Pricing and production numbers for the hot crossover have yet to be confirmed.

“We know our Ford Performance fans want their vehicles to look as good as they drive, and there’s no better way to discover what our performance customers love most than to put them in the driver’s seat and let them make key decisions about the appearance of our new Puma ST special edition,” said Amko Leenarts, Ford of Europe’s design boss.

“This is human-centred design in action. It’s going to be a huge thrill to see the real thing out on the road."

This is the second time that the American firm has allowed enthusiasts to contribute to one of its car designs, after 250,000 enthusiasts voted for the seating position, cockpit style and drivetrain of the esports-inspired Team Fordzilla P1 concept last year.
