Milan-based Touring Superleggera has paid homage to the 1952 Alfa C52 Disco Volante with a new model

Milan-based Touring Superleggera has paid homage to the 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 Disco Volante with a new Alfa 8C-based car at the Geneva motor show.

The front-engined, two-seat Disco Volante 2012 by Touring will be built as a “very limited series model”.

Those wanting one must first buy an 8C and Touring — the coachbuilder behind the shooting brake version of the Bentley Continental GT — will then take six months to turn it into a Disco Volante 2012.

It retains the 8C’s 444bhp 4.7-litre V8 but gets hand-beaten aluminium body panels. Carbonfibre is also used on the bodywork.

I think the square wheel arch works extremely well on this, however not sure what it will do to the turning circle, perhaps meant for rich ex 156/147 GTA owners who are well used to 75 point turns. Although I love the thing I have to agree with Disco Stu, much better based on a Brera than having to butcher an 8c. Lets face it a Brera chassis could do with some alloy and carbon added into the mix.

I wouldn't mind Gandini's square arches in the Maserati Shamal

I was smitten by the Shamal when I read the first drive of it in Car magazine, February 1992. I still have that edition and the car still looks as desirable today. Idiosyncratic, but eminently preferable to a Ferrari 348 in its day.
