The modern recreation of the iconic Lancia Stratos will not make production in its present state.
The New Stratos is currently only a one-off, but plans to build a limited production run of 25 units had attracted more than 40 potential buyers from Europe and further afield.
Italian car design firm and coachbuilder Pininfarina created a one-off running example based around Ferrari 430 Scuderia running gear last year as a follow-up to a 2005 concept.
But a statement on the New Stratos website said Pininfarina, along with “any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers”, had been blocked from producing a limited run of the cars by Ferrari.
“Despite Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo’s excellent assessment of the New Stratos after his test drive at Fiorano, Ferrari does not consent to construction of the planned limited run by either Pininfarina or any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers,” read the statement.

The New Stratos is the work Chris Hrabalek, a freelance car designer and Stratos enthusiast, and Michael Stoschek, chairman of a German automotive components supplier.
The statement claims that a Ferrari 360 can also be used as a base for the New Stratos. However, the firm now says it will look elsewhere for a base to the car.
“Creation of additional vehicles seems possible only via companies that are not dependent on Ferrari,” the statement continued.
Ferrari did not comment on the claims. However, it has traditionally only worked with other companies within the Fiat group when sharing hardware.
