BMW has launched the most frugal version of the 5-series saloon ever, which returns 62.8mpg at the pumps and emits just 119g/km of CO2.
The BMW 520d Efficient Dynamics, which will cost from £30,435 when sales start in September, is powered by an 181bhp, 280lb ft 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed manual ‘box. Efficient Dynamics technology includes stop-start, low rolling resistance tyres, a longer final drive ratio and brake-energy recuperation.
All the changes result in a company car tax-friendly benefit-in-kind rating of just 13 per cent.

Other changes in the 5-series range include a new four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel for the 525d to replace the current six-cylinder unit and new petrol engines for the 520i and 528i. Both the cars get 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, the 520i’s producing 181bhp and 528i’s 242bhp.
Elsewhere in the revised 5-series range, a 550i version of the BMW 5-series Touring has been launched with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol motor.
Specification changes to the 5-series range includes BMW’S Drive Dynamic Control becoming standard on all models. It allows the driver to adjust the car’s ride and handling characteristics. Lowered-powered 5-series will also get an Eco mode that tweaks throttle response and shift points of auto boxes for optimised economy.
