Performance engines for Mini Coupé line-up that includes JCW and Cooper SD versions

Mini will equip its new Coupé model with its most powerful petrol and diesel engines, with JCW and Cooper SD variants offered from launch.

All elements of the two-seater have been engineered for “optimum performance”, according to Mini. To that end, the Coupé gets a unique chassis set-up, bodywork and interior over the cabriolet it is based on, as well as BMW”s latest generation of four-cylinder engines.

Top-spec JCW and Cooper SD models will also be joined by Cooper and Cooper S model in the range that will reach UK showrooms later this year after a Frankfurt show debut in September.

The JCW version is powered by a turbocharged 208bhp/192lb ft 1.6-litre petrol engine that helps propel it from 0-62mph in just 6.4sec. The turbocharged 181bhp/177lb ft Cooper S and normally aspirated 120bhp/118lb ft Cooper models are also powered by a 1.6-litre petrol unit.

The Cooper SD gets a turbocharged 141bhp/225lb ft 2.0-litre diesel, which offers 7.9sec 0-62mph performance as well as 65.7mpg combined economy and 114g/km CO2 emissions.
