McLarens GT3 race car will be based on the firms MP4-12C supercar

McLaren has confirmed that it will produce a limited number of GT3 race cars, based on its MP4-12C supercar.

As part of its development, the collaborative venture with CRS Racing will see its cars compete at a limited number of European GT races in 2011, with final production ready for customers in 2012.

The road car's 592bhp, twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine will rev to 8500rpm, with its peak 442lb ft of torque available from 3000rpm, although 80 per cent is available between 2000-6500rpm. By comparison, Ferrari’s 458 produces 562bhp and 398lb ft and the Mercedes SLS 563bhp and 479lb ft from their V8 engines.

Re: McLaren confirms GT3 race car

the mclaren f1 won le mans when the regs didnt allow full grp c style cars, and the cars were based on a road going variant. this was fine until mercedes and toyota started stretching the regs and it all fell apart, back to the old grp c style regs again. but as a gt3 car it should be a winner. and whats this rubbish about 'american diplomacy'?
