Forester is the first Subaru to be powered by the firm’s new turbocharged 2.5-litre boxer engine

A new Subaru Forester variant has been unveiled at the Australian motor show in Sydney.

According to Subaru Australia boss Nick Senior, the concept “points towards an exciting development in our Forester range early next year”.

It is the first Subaru to be powered by the firm’s new turbocharged 2.5-litre boxer engine. With 259bhp it is 32bhp more powerful than the unit found in the existing Forester XT. It also gets more torque, up by 20lb ft to 256lb ft.

Additions to the S-Edition concept include a paddleshift five-speed automatic gearbox, revised sports suspension and Variable Torque Distribution (VTD).

Subaru could not confirm whether the S-Edition would be made available in the UK.

Re: Subaru's new Forester concept

I want to like Subaru, I really do, but they've lost the plot! They don't provide an automatic with their diesel engines, they make each successive generation of their cars uglier and the interiors are silver plastic nightmares.

Once again Subaru find the smallest market niche and aim right at it. This time, it's the niche for over powered, gasoline fuelled 4x4s. Have they not spotted that Mazda replaced the 2.3 litre turbo powered CX7 with a diesel version?

"Subaru's new Forester concept" so what happened to this story then. I clicked the link expecting a whole new car design idea to replace the current Forester.
