Alpina wil launch its own version of the BMW M5 at Goodwood next month

Alpina will launch its own version of the BMW M5 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – the B5 Bi-Turbo.

The firm has posted the first official sketch on its website, although details on the car itself are limited.

We’ve yet to see the new BMW M5, so Alpina’s high-performance saloon will be the most hardcore version of the new 5-series yet.

The B5 Bi-Turbo is expected to be powered by the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 taken from the BMW X5M and X6M, as well as the Alpina B7.

This engine will also be used in the new M5 – a significant fact as it will be the first time in recent history BMW and Alpina products share the same engine, putting the M5 and B5 in direct competition with one another.

In the B7, the V8 produces 500bhp/516lb ft so expect similar outputs from the B5.

Alpina says the car will offer “best-in-class” economy.

The firm will have the new B5 at both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Moving Motor Show from 1-4 July.

Which confirms my earlier view that BMW M must concentrate on high revving NA engine with hybrid technology (For low-end torque and hence taller gearing as desired by BMW for better economy) and leave forced induction to Alpina.

Re: New BMW Alpina B5: first pic

I completely want this car! I have a real soft spot for Alpina's (The saloon's).

This Car looks good from the sketch, and I bet it goes like s*** off a shovel!
