Toyota has confirmed prices and specs for its new Auris Hybrid - and the five-door is set to run its bespoke Prius stablemate close on more than just fuel economy.
The Auris Hybrid will be available in two specs: T4 and T Spirit. When fitted with 15-inch wheels the car will return 74.3mpg and emit 89g/km of CO2; the optional 17-inch wheels change those figures to 70.6mpg and 93g/km.
Toyota is continuing to pitch its hybrids at the upper areas of family car pricing, rather than Honda’s cheaper Insight. As as a result the Auris Hybrid will cost from £18,950 for a T4 model; that’s barely £500 less than the base Prius. The range-topping T Spirit Auris Hybrid will cost £20,700.
Toyota claims a 0-62mph time of 11.4sec and a top speed of 112mph for the Auris, which combines a 1.8-litre petrol powerplant with an electric motor.
The base T4 spec includes air-con, six-speaker audio, USB and AUX-in sockets, and LED daytime running lights. T Spirit adds leather/Alcantara upholstery, cruise control, Bluetooth and rain-sensing windscreen wipers.
The Auris Hybrid is available to order now; deliveries will start in July.

I agree, the Prius generally has a positive image these days. The only Toyota still with a positive image?
