£1.2 million supercar gets its first public outing in the UK on a supercar run

The Aston Martin One-77 is getting its first public outing in the UK today, taking part in a supercar run from London to Silverstone.

The run is designed to promote the FIA GT1 World Championship, which takes part at SIlverstone this weekend. The pictures of the One-77, which is the first production-ready example made by Aston, were taken in central London this morning.

The Aston One-77 is powered by a 7.0-litre V12 engine, which produces around 700bhp. Just 77 units will be built; each example costs just over £1.2 million.

In testing, the One-77 has already become the fastest Aston ever, recording more than 220mph.

A pity, as it was so nearly a pretty and well-proportioned car.
Yes, it's 'proportion' that's the problem.

Actually, Ian Callum had only sketched the DB9 when he moved to Jag, and the DB9 was realised by Fisker. Same goes for the Vantage, AFAIK.

Interview with Ian Callum

You took the job of design director of Jaguar in 1999, but you carried on designing Aston Martins “on the side.” For the record, how much of the V-8 Vantage and the DB9 were done under your watch?

The DB9, I’d say pretty much 100 percent, including the interior. Maybe not color and trim and wood finishes, but certainly the surfaces of the car. And the V-8, I would say a good 80 percent. In fact, we started the V-8 first and then shelved it while we did the DB9—that’s why they’re quite similar.

And yet your name isn’t officially attached to either of them...

Those who matter know. That’s fine with me. They’re in my portfolio. You only have to look at the DB9 to see who designed it—it’s a Vanquish with a dinner jacket on.

PS

Do you have any idea how long it takes for a tiny company to design a car?

Sketch to production in less than 2 years? I doubt even bmw could do that.

It's more than "a bit" ugly. It's downright deformed.
